Open Book visits The Word On The Street's Digital Drive Tent

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from covering Word On The Street's Digital Drive tent last month. It was the festival's first year introducing Digital Drive and it promised a look at how technology is affecting the literary world. I've always been one of those avid readers who cling to statements like "I love the smell of books" in order to dismiss the notion of ever buying an ereader. I'll have to admit, my feelings began to sway after watching the presentations. CTV's tech specialist Kris Abel did an excellent job of moderating the discussion and weighing the pros and cons of several aspects of the devices. I began to see the practicality of things that the ereaders assist with, such as allowing the user to travel more lightly and providing interactive features. So although I can't see myself ever replacing my beloved bookshelves, the idea of an ereader in my future is definitely a probability.
