Scotiabank Pongapalooza

On Tuesday, May 14, First Book Canada — a national organization that fights low literacy rates by providing children in need with new, age-appropriate books — will host their annual fundraiser, Scotiabank Pongapalooza. The event was introduced last year to bring awareness to First Book Canada and raised $10,000.

This year, with a goal of raising $20,000, teams from Scotiabank, CIBC, TD Canada Trust, Target, Frontier College and every major Canadian publishing house will challenge KPMG, last year’s winning team, for the ultimate title of Pongapalooza Champion. Thirty-two teams of four multi-level players will be paired with Canlit “literary captains,” including Cathy Marie Buchanan, David Chilton, Gillian Deacon, Lawrence Hill, Toronto Star’s Corey Mitz, National Post's Steve Murray, Andrew Pyper and Bonnie Stern.

Team registration is sold out, but spectator tickets are still available online ($25) or at the door ($30). Come out to cheer on the teams, enter for raffle prizes, take pictures in the photo booth and bid on silent auction items like ski resort passes and tickets to the Stratford Festival and Mirvish shows.
