Noticed: CBC's Canada Reads Announces Top 40
Submitted by mdfdoyle on October 18, 2011 - 1:49pm
The CBC's annual literary love-in, Canada Reads, has announced it's decidedly long long-list. This year, the friendly competition for Canadians' literary affections opted for a non-fiction theme, going under the moniker Canada Reads: True Stories. The complete list, with links to all 40 books, can be found here. The list is a smörgåsbord of high calibre Canadian content, covering subjects as diverse as urban planning, a great, grumpy Montreal writer, Louis Reil, goaltending for the Habs, Jane Austen, the Paris Peace Conference of 1919, the Rwandan genocide, and replacing your child's education with three films a week. Needless to say, this countries' non-fiction is no longer merely dominated simply by the likes of Mowat or Pierre Berton... although, they are on the list as well! You can vote on up to five books at the Canada Reads website until October 30. In February, a select group of celebrity panelists will choose a book from the publicly voted shortlist and defend it in a broadcasted debate. Related item from our archives |
