Freedom to Read Week - Celebrations and Bookcrossing

This evening, the Book and Periodical Council is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Freedom to Read Week at the Gladstone Hotel. Head to the free event for an evening of dialogue, music and celebration. A guest panel will discuss freedom to read issues. Following the panel discussion, the 2009 Writers' Union of Canada Freedom to Read Award will be presented. Full event details are here.

There are several ways to participate in Freedom to Read Week. Check out the Book and Periodical Council's website for events and suggestions. They have a nifty program called Bookcrossing, which is a great way to spread the word about books that have been challenged. To participate, look through the list of challenged books and see if you've got one on your shelves, tag it with a Bookcrossing label, register the book, leave it in a public place and then track your book online.
