D is for Daring - a Book of the Year Finalist

D is for Daring: The Women Behind the Films of Studio by Gail Vanstone has been selected as a finalist for Foreword Magazine’s tenth annual Book of the Year Awards in the Women’s Issues Category. A panel of librarians and booksellers will decide the winners of the awards, which will be presented at BookExpo America in Los Angeles on May 29. Foreword "reviews good books, independently published." You can read their current and archived reviews online.

In D is for Daring, Vanstone uses interviews and archival records to examine the history of Canada’s only feminist filmmaking studio. Vanstone is an assistant professor in the School of Arts and Letters in the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies at York University. D is for Daring was published by Sumach Press in fall 2007. Visit the Sumach Press website to read an interview with Vanstone and to read an excerpt from the book’s introduction.
